ILIA JIVOY

Ilia Jivoy was born in Leningrad. Graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in 2008 (class of Gennady Selyutsky). Completed the Master’s Course in «Choreographer’s Art» at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in 2015 (class of Nikolay Boyarchikov). Employed as a coryphée by the Mariinsky ballet, he appears in many productions, interpreting a whole range of characters. Both experts and audiences have appreciated him as the Little Humpbacked Horse, Puck in Balanchine’s «A Midsummer Nights’s Dream».

Jivoy also has an extensive experience in «new choreography»: he has appeared in productions by Wiliam Forsythe, Angelin Preljocaj, Paul Lightfoot and Sol León, Dwight Roden, Hans van Manen and Alexei Ratmansky. Since 2013, when Jivoy ventured into choreographing own pieces, he has staged four one-act ballets within the Mariinksy Theatre’s Creative Workshop of Young Choreographers. He also took part in Sergei Danilyan's project «The Dreamers» in 2017. «The Four Seasons» ballet (2017) was his first full-length repertoire production for Mariinsky Theatre.
