KÖNIG IM SCHNEE

A winter's tale in the lake scenery

The illustrated book «Der König im Schnee» documents another spectacular open air project of Origen. In March and April 2013 a dance theatre has been staged in the vast lake scenery of Silvaplana in the Upper Engadin. It documents the legendary journey of Charlemagne over the mountains of Grisons. The young king gets caught in a snow storm and fears for his life. In his feverish dreams long deceased characters appear to him and force him to rest - located in the frozen landscape of wintry mountains. This project resulted in a series of breath-taking pictures, that report from the construction of a golden palace on a blanket of snow, from freezing cold rehearsals in the middle of the night and from performances in the driving snow. A contribution to the 1200th anniversary of Charlemagne's death.
