MALCOLM SUTHERLAND

 

Born in Scotland, Malcolm Sutherland completed his dance education from 2004 to 2007 at the Central School of Ballet, London. After a year as an Apprentice in Switzerland with Ballet Basel, Malcolm was hired for the 2008-2009 season as a member of the Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballet under the directorship of Goyo Montero. During the 7 successful years with the Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballet, he could work with such world renowned choreographers as: Jiří Kylián, Nacho Duato, Ohad Naharin, Mats Ek, Johan lnger, Crystal Pite, Mauro Bigonzetti, Cayetano Soto and Douglas Lee.

 

Since 2015 Malcolm is pursuing his career as a freelance choreographer and dancer, which has included dancing in projects by Joseph Sturdy in Sweden including the lead role of Macbeth in the 2018 production, Shang Chi Sun in Berlin and Jean-Guillaume Weis in Luxembourg. In December 2016 Malcolm created his first full-length production entitled Vivaldi Verses for the Tafelhalle, Nürnberg. Malcolm's second full length work «Under The Knife» arrived in November 2017. Malcolm was a member of the Cohan Collective in summer 2018 under the tutorage of Robert Cohan and he completed his MA Choreography with Distinction. In January 2019, Malcolm created the piece «Aftermath» for the students of Academia Nazionale di Danza in Rome as part of the RESID’AND program.

 

For the Origen Festival he danced in Kristian Lever's piece «Connecting Doors» (2020).
