The historian Basil Vollenweider has intensively studied the history of the village of Mulegns and its famous hotel. In the new book he describes the pioneering work of the hotelier family Balzer, who built a small hotel empire in Mulegns. He pays special attention to the sophisticated transport system of his time, which was an essential prerequisite for the tourist boom in the Engadin. Finally, the volume tells of the illustrious guests who stayed at the Lion and sheds light on their origins and travel habits at the end of the Belle Epoque.
