THIAGO BORDIN

 

He began his studies in Teatro Municipal in Sao Paulo (Brazil), in 1999 got a scholarship from «Die Tanzstiftung Birgit Keil» and completed his dance studies at the «Akademie des Tanzes Mannheim» (Germany). Bordin started his professional dance career in 2001 at the Hamburg Ballet, becoming a soloist in 2005 and a Principal Dancer in 2006. Legendary Choreographer John Neumeier created different roles for him over the years, such as the Angel in «The Christmas Oratorio» and Walter Gropius in «Purgatorio, Dialogue (with Diana Vishneva)». He danced lead roles in many of Neumeier´s ballets, such as «Illusions – Like Swan Lake», «Nijinsky», «Romeo and Juliet», «Othello», «Midsummer Night’s Dream», «The Nutcracker» or «The Lady of the Camellias». He also made guest appearances with dance companies around the world, and danced to choreographies by Natalia Makarova, Pierre Lacotte, Christopher Wheeldon, Eliot Feld, Jerome Robbins, Frederick Ashton, John Cranko and George Balanchine.

 

From 2014 till 2017 he was a member of The Nederlands Dans Theater, dancing to works and creations by choreographers like Hans Van Manen, Matz Ek, Paul Lightfoot and Sol Léon, Cristal Pite, Marco Goecke. Bordin has choreographed since 2001, creating works for the Bundesjugendballett and Hamburg Ballet dancers, Akademie des Tanzes in Mannheim, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe in Germany, São Paulo Companhia de Danca in Brazil and Dancers from the Paris Opera Ballet.

 

Awards included First Prize from the Tanzstiftung Birgit Keil 2000 (Germany), Finalist in the Prix de Lausanne 2000, and the Grand Prix d’Eurovision for Youth in London, 2001. In 2005 he received The German Dance Prize in the category future choreographers and in 2010 he was awarded by Italy’s prestigious Premio Positano de la Danza and the Benois de la Danse in Moscow for his interpretation of Armand in the Lady of the Camellias

 

In summer 2019 he performed «Inferno» for the Origen Festival together with Luca-Andrea Tessarini; in summer 2020 he was featured in «Elements»; in winter 2022 he has been seen in «Kaiserin Irene» and in summer in «Zuccalli».
