TOMOKO KUDO

 

Tomoko Kudo is a Japanese flamenco dancer, born in Goshogawara, Aomori Prefecture, Japan in 1980. In 2001, at the age of 20, she moved to Tokyo to study flamenco at Mayumi Kagita & Hiroki Sato Flamenco Studio. In 2003 she became a member of Mayumi Kagita & Hiroki Sato Flamenco Company, «ARTE Y SOLERA». In 2017 she joined the Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists by the Japanese Government Agency for Cultural Affairs and studied flamenco in Sevilla for one year. In the following year, she came back to Japan and performed as the main character of «SONEZAKI SHINJU» at New National Theatre («Sonezaki-shinju» is one of the masterpieces of Chikamatsu Monzaemon, the most prominent playwright of Bunraku (Japanese puppet theatre) and Kabuki in Japan).

 

She won several awards, such as the Encouragement Award in the solo dance category of the ASOCIACION NIPONA DE FLAMENCO annual flamenco competition (2006), the Aomori Prefecture Cultural Award (2019) or the Cultural Award of the Toonippo Cultural Foundation of Aomori (2022).

 

At the Origen Festival she danced in Yuka Oishis ballet «Time» in 2023.
